Intermediate Navigation Course

This 2 Day Course follows on from the Beginners Navigation Course.

Run over 2 days with a minimum of 12 hours of contact time.

Learning Outcomes.

On completion of this course participants will be able to follow a route with some sections not on paths or tracks.

  • Utilise the skills and techniques of the One Day Course.
  • Relate small hills,valleys re-entrants and spurs to their map contours. Use hills, ridges, spurs and valleys as a means of navigation in good visibility.
  • Use landforms and features to orientate the map and as collecting and catching features.
  • Use a compass to take a bearing from a map.
  • Use a compass to follow a bearing, aim off, attack points.
  • Deviate from a compass bearing to avoid obstacles or difficult terrain and regain the original line.
  • Use back bearings.
  • Use aspect of slope as an aid to relocation.
  • Measure distance on the ground in varied terrain using timings and pacing.
  • Simplify legs using course navigation, attack points and fine navigation.
  • Be able to recognise dangerous or difficult terrain on map and ground.

Cost is £60.00 per person.
